  • Abstract
FTIR mapping of leucite and hauyne were performed by IR micro-spectroscopy at the SINBAD beamline at Frascati. Leucite showed water to be zoned with virtually anhydrous cores and water rich-rims. In hauyne we observed intense absorptions due to H2O and molecular CO2 with variable H2O/CO2. Analysis of volatile traces of H2O and CO2 in volcanic minerals provides significant constraints on the genesis and evolution of magmatic systems.
