Abstract :
A simple and low cost remote up conversion (RUC) scheme is proposed using only one optical modulator. The baseband (BB) data and local oscillator (LO) signal are electrically coupled to drive a commercial intense modulator (IM). The laser source and IM can be shared by both BB data and LO signal. With less than 0.3dB power penalty, the 2.5Gbps on-off keying (OOK) data over 50km single mode fiber (SMF) is successfully distributed in a 60GHz ROF system without any chromatic dispersion compensation. The low cost and low power penalty suggest that such scheme is suitable for low cost 60GHz optical-wireless networks.
