Abstract
The volume of information transmission is expected to increase with advances in protection for electric power systems, and effectively coping with this through the utilization of existing transmission facilities, involves the construction of transmission networks for a wide range of optical information by replacing overhead ground wires by optical fibre ground wires (OPGW) having an even greater number of cores. In order to realize such a system, various technological developments have been made for OPGW having multiple optical fiber cores to provide nearly the same performance as overhead ground wires, and also for replacement methods that do not damage the optical fibers. The authors present a report on the techniques used to replace existing overhead ground wires with OPGW
