Abstract
Since the advent of the helicopter it has often been viewed by construction engineers as providing that, hitherto much sought after, skyhook. The passage of time has shown that to some extent their hopes have been realised but the lack of general use in civil engineering and in particular overhead line construction poses a number of questions namely, the roles in which they are appropriate and the reasons for their use. The author addresses the answers to these questions
