Abstract :
A novel scheme of motion compensated prediction in wavelet domain is presented in this paper. First, a shift-invariant over-sampled wavelet transform based motion estimation and motion compensation framework is proposed. Then, a multi-resolution version of the framework is developed to reduce the computational complexity. A subband in the multi-resolution over-sampled wavelet transform is no more than a non-down-sampled version of its DWT counterpart. A hierarchical block-matching scheme is introduced to further fasten the motion vector search. Experimental results have shown that the performances of the shift-invariant over-sampled wavelet transform based approach are superior to conventional motion estimation methods. The PSNR results of the multi-resolution version approach are goodish but still inferior to the results of the former one.
