Abstract :
In the United States telecommunications network, network databases are increasingly involved in call processing for the realization of new network services. The authors explore the use of the relational model to describe the application interface to network services data. They illustrate the use of standard relational data manipulation language to express the database interaction logic of several services, including directory services, 800 service, network call distribution and automatic call back. They discuss the advantages of the use of a standard interface between network applications and the data they access and consider the feasibility of implementing the model directly within the network
