Title :
Signalling system for German high speed lines
Author_Institution :
Standard Elektrik Lorenz AG, Stuttgart, West Germany
Abstract :
A few years ago, a renaissance of railways started all over Europe to increase the market share in long distance travel. The increase in passenger volume of the French TGV-lines confirmed the assumption, that higher travel speeds would attract more passengers. In Germany, the target was set to be half as fast as the plane, twice as fast as the car. The author shows how, to meet this target, new lines, new rolling stock and an upgraded signalling system had to be built. In addition, it was decided to upgrade existing lines in order to increase speed above 200 km/h
