Abstract
A single, fully integrated computer system developed by AEG Westinghouse handles all functions associated with the safe operation of a mass transit system. Such functions include operator interface, mode control, vehicle tracking, vehicle routing, data acquisition, data display and vital interlocking. The system uses a distributed architecture of advanced microprocessors with the latest peripherals and display technologies. The general approach is based on the use of generic hardware with all the functions handled in the software. The author concentrates on the operator interface in the central control room and the implementation of the safety interlocking logic using microprocessors
