Abstract
Since the origin of mankind, lightning has fascinated people so much that it was made an attribute of their powerful gods. This paper shows that everywhere in the world mythic stories appeared taking into account the power of gods: punitive lightning, rumbling and terrifying thunder, lightning related to fecundating rain, or tamed lightning as a source of energy.
