Abstract
The authors show how the transmission/display standards can be expected to evolve for satellite broadcasting based on the MAC standard. Furthermore, the possibilities for evolution of the studio standard through to an HDTV standard of 1250/50/2:1 or 1250/50/1:1 are considered. Such evolution of both studio and display standards is made possible by the combination of the MAC system for use in satellite broadcasting and by the use of studio standards, including the HDTV standard which are based on 50 Hz field rate and the world wide digital studio standard of CCIR Recommendation 601
