  • Abstract
    Software technology for factory automation is discussed. With the trend toward intelligent factory automation, it is important to integrate three types of technology: the extension of existing approaches, new programming technology using artificial intelligence, and simulation technology. Two application examples of integrated technology are presented. One is the use of a multiobjective evaluation expert system in flow-type production-line design. The other is a hybrid FMS (flexible manufacturing systems) design system including a simulator and expert system
