Abstract
Orientationally ordered polymer films combine the attractive properties of organic nonlinear optical materials (large molecular susceptibilities, tailoring properties by molecular engineering) with attractive properties of glassy polymers (high optical quality, low dielectric constant and dielectric loss, processability, fabrication flexibility). Using the thermodynamic model, improvements in the pertinent parameters are realized. Such improvements, along with the linear optical properties and fabrication flexibility inherent to glassy polymers, makes this material class a promising one for use in integrated optics
