World modelling from range images

The author separates data fusion, a process central to creating world models, into two phases: interpretation and update. A standard technique from model based vision, the interpretation tree, is applied to the first phase. General methods of controlling the search space are reviewed and a framework for incorporating such methods suggested. Particular methods for the case of a laser range finder in an indoors environment are discussed
