Abstract :
Recent breakthroughs in photodetector and optical sensor technologies have increased the performance and functionality of a wide range of existing systems as well as enabling new applications. This talk will review progress in a variety of low-noise avalanche photodiodes (APDs). Emphasis will be on APDs that operate at the spectral edges of the spectrum covered by Si APDs; namely, the ultraviolet and short-wavelength and mid-wavelength infrared. Both linear mode and Geiger-mode operation will be discussed.
