Abstract
A computer program used for calculating multiple prestriking transients in three-phase cable connected motor systems, and which is based on Fourier solution methods is described. It is demonstrated that the complex interaction taking place between individual poles of the closing switch can be successfully simulated. It is also shown that, in a given system, a wide range of prestriking transients can be produced by variation in mechanical pole closure scatter of the poles of the switching device. In particular, it is demonstrated that under certain pole closure sequences, the greatest prestriking transients can be produced by the last pole of the switching device to close
