  • Abstract
The adopted diagnostic procedures in industrial process are based on the monitoring of one or more significant indicators of the considered fault. Therefore, the diagnostic performances depend on the reliability of these fault indicators which should significantly represent the fault. For this purpose the investigation of an effective indicator remains usually the main aim to achieve a correct diagnostic procedure. However, this paper presents a novel and efficient indicator of an inter turns short circuit fault in two stator windings of the induction machine. This fault indicator is the behavior of the angle and the amplitude of the negative sequence component of the stator current. Simulation of different examples of stator faults are carried out to study the behavior of this indicator. Accordingly, this paper points out the existence of a powerful link between the angle of the negative sequence of the current and the faulty phases. This link offers an attractive approach to identify the two faulty phases and to indicate the phase the more affected by the fault. It is also demonstrate that the amplitude of the negative sequence of the stator current yield to determinate the severity of the fault. Experimental test are also carried out to validate the behavior of this indicator of fault. These potential advantages prove the effectiveness and the reliability of the proposed indicator of the fault, useful to accomplish a correct diagnostic procedure.
