Abstract :
Resilient packet ring (RPR) provides higher bandwidth utilization than other ring technologies. Bandwidth utilization and fairness policy are very important for RPR. RPR can be regarded as Register Insertion Ring (RIR). For more generality, we developed a primary bandwidth model of RIR and analysed its bandwidth utilization and fairness policy. The results show that: The dual-ring have the advantage of bandwidth utilization effective over single ring. RIR has maximum throughput in "Ring" traffic pattern, and has no advantages than conventional rings in "Star" traffic pattern. RIR has a little advantage over conventional rings in "Balance Mesh" traffic pattern using station-based fairness policy, and more advantage using flow-based fairness policy .And flow-based fairness is the optimum policy for RIR to achieve maximum throughput.
