Abstract
A formalised general design procedure for scalable parallel embedded real-time vision systems is presented, based upon the use of transputers (or similar processors) as the fundamental system component and tertiary tree processor farms as the basic building block. The philosophy for this approach is presented, and the procedure illustrated using a complete design example for real-time handwritten postal address recognition
