The design of the James Bay-Boston 450 kV system is a reflection of the planning and operating requirements that led to its adoption and which in turn led to constraints in its implementation. The authors take a second look at this multiterminal DC (MTDC) system and review the planning studies, the operating philosophy and the design itself
