Abstract :
This paper focused on some important issues coming along with the integration of lightweight, flexible antennas in high speed mobile devices. It was shown that the rectangular patch antenna is almost non-sensitive to the background environment below its ground plane, making this antenna very easy to use with laptops and handheld devices. The rectangular patch was folded around the axis where the electrical field is null; this has the effect of decreasing the electrical length of the patch. The radiation pattern of the folded patch is also altered, because of the relative positioning of the two radiating edges. This research will be continued to investigate the effect of folding the patch in its E-plane. Measurements of the studied antennas will be presented at the conference.
