  • Abstract
    The authors describe a method and a digital tool developed to study the interactions between an AC network and synchronous machines in the frequency domain below the synchronous frequency of the power network. In particular, they consider the case of torsional interactions between a turbo-generator and an HVDC link. The proposed approach consists in dividing a heterogeneous system into homogeneous sub-systems, whose individual behaviors can be described in a relatively simple way, and in assembling these subsystems as an entity in digital simulation. They also discuss the approach used for model validation based on field test records performed during field tests on the Cross Channel 2000 MW HVDC link and its interactions with the Gravelines nuclear power plant
