Abstract
The authors describe the control strategy and operation of a power converter circuit for four-phase switched reluctance motor. The motor is based on an 8/6-salience magnetic configuration with associated star-connected windings power convertor topology. The control strategy is based on voltage-controlled pulse-width modulation applied to each phase, maximum overlap between conductions of adjacent phases and a priori control of switching angles. A four-phase switched-reluctance motor employing such control strategy is characterized with high efficiency over the operating range and with reduced torque ripple
