  • Abstract
Flexible wave rotor reluctance machines are electromagnetic devices which serve to produce low rotational speed with high torque. These motors can be used in robot systems, space rockets, and special applications. They have an important advantage, since loads can be driven with very low speed (about 10 rev./min. or lower) without the need of a gearbox. In the present investigation, a new design for these wave machines employing a thin flexible rotor is proposed. The new design is characterized such that a high starting torque can be obtained. Also, a theoretical analysis used to calculate the contact force acts between the stator and the flexible rotor is given. A group of experimental results are used to demonstrate the performance characteristics and special feature of this machine
