Abstract
The authors present experimental iron loss measurements and discuss the prediction of these in relation to the standard information provided by the steel manufacturers. The emphasis of the work is to develop semi-empirical methods of predicting the iron losses that are reliable and accurate to reasonably well-defined tolerances. These methods are based upon straight-forward experimental loss measurements and are particularly suitable for motor manufacturers where a routine program of testing steel lamination material can be carried out. Statistical variations in the iron losses for nominally identical lamination materials can thus be monitored and allowed for in the motor designs
