Abstract
An ongoing challenge for the electric power industry is to transform the business of developing, operating and maintaining power transmission systems in a manner that increases productivity while also increasing quality of supply to customers. That is, to do more for the customer, but with fewer financial and human resources. Advances in computing technology provide an opportunity for the 1990s to be a decade of significant business transformation. The author addresses this vision and presents a strategy for the use of emerging integrated computing facilities, in a new generation of monitoring and control systems linked to computer aided engineering systems, to achieving business transformation
