Abstract
During periods of reduced generation which occur as a result of industrial actions or of insufficient generation capacity load circuits are shed to maintain balance in generation and demand. In attempts to supply power to consumers fairly, circuits are taken out of service, and then restored, in a rotational manner. The manual process of decision making to shed and to restore loads my not lead to a fair power supply to consumers. the authors examine the main requirements and constraints in the operation during these periods. They develop an algorithm, which includes the main operational constraints, for shedding and restoration based on strategies for selecting circuits. The algorithm is implemented using the PROLOG language. Results obtained by applying the developed software system to a reduced generation period in a sample system lasting six hours are presented
