Abstract
Power systems have been developed in China for over 40 years in four stages: city supply, provincial grids, regional networks and interconnected systems. By analysing about 400 cases of stability faults of electric power systems in China, the general orientation of reliability is found to adhere to the realization of three basic problems: structure of the network, protective relays and safety devices, and management work. The author reviews 40 years of stability faults discussing their causes and prevention through relays and safety devices. The author then discusses ways of enhancing power system stability and network structure
