Abstract :
Although successfully used by many authors, Point- -Matching Technique (PMT) was also criticized for a supposed lack of completeness. We will show that the usual PMT is valid while based upon mathematical theorems, but has to be treated very carefully. Source of errors are for instance wrong symmetry considerations. For problems with different symmetries we give the field expansion obtained with the use of the representation theory of groups. These expansions can also be used with the method of moments (MM) which will be compared with the PMT. Complex calculation is directly used to solve problems in lossy mediums and results for different cases, such as waves on metallic wires, in optical fibers, and scattering, are discussed.
