Abstract :
The author describes the techniques used in determining the basic performance parameters of generator excitation systems. The importance of system load dynamics is discussed and the need for accurate representation of load response is emphasised. In cases where the need to retrofit existing plant arises it is essential to consider the implications on the design of the generator as a whole to ensure that acceptable reliability levels are maintained
