Abstract :
A novel surface interpolation algorithm for high-frequency RCS simulations with facetted surfaces is presented in this paper. The comparison of the results with data obtained by a numerically exact finite element algorithm reveals that an excellent accuracy is obtained with the interpolation algorithm, while the original ray tracing algorithm without surface interpolation is far less accurate if multiple reflections are relevant. Similar results could be found also with more complex curved structures, where multiple reflection is relevant, e.g. generic engine intakes, which makes this interpolation a very useful enhancement to asymptotic RCS modeling.
