Abstract
This paper reviews (1) the evolution of the regulatory regime, (2) the choice of frequencies, (3) the basis of the planning for the future use of MVDS, (4) the arrangements for licensing of MVDS; and (5) the next steps on the way to the introduction of MVDS services. The term `MVDS´ is used generally to cover any system operating above 1 GHz for the terrestrial distribution of television services to residential viewers. It embraces what are sometimes referred to as `microwave video distribution systems´, and `millimetric microwave multipoint video distribution systems´
