  • Abstract
    During late 1989 the GMA group won the contract to design, build, operate and maintain the Manchester Metrolink. The GMA group is a nonintegrated joint venture partnership consisting of; GEC-Alsthom, Mowlem Civil Engineering, AMEC, and GM Buses. The author briefly discusses the civil engineering work carried out for the five sections of Metrolink. These sections are: the city centre, viaducts, British Rail lines, Piccadilly Undercroft, and Victoria station. The work included track laying, overhead line installation and structural repairs
