Abstract
The Manchester Metrolink Light Rail System requires good telecommunication systems to ensure the safe and efficient running of the railway. The focal point for communications is at the Queens Road control centre which lies geographically towards the centre of the present railway network. An optical fibre transmission system and trunked radio system enable communications to be extended from the control centre to stations and light rail vehicles respectively. On-board communications between drivers and passengers are also provided. The author describes each of these systems
