Abstract :
A frequency agile patch antenna utilizing a differential feeding scheme has been proposed for extending the tuning range of microstrip patch antennas. This feed can be readily integrated with differential RFICs and may find broad applications in mobile wireless devices. Measured results from a prototype show at least a 1.3:1 tuning range possible with the device, with much more expected if the varactor diode biasing scheme is optimized based on experimental results with fixed capacitors. Ongoing work is assessing the linearity and efficiency of this antenna.
