  • Abstract
Discusses how there is now considerable emphasis on the formalisation of requirements capture, the process of moving from the real world to one capable of definition and solution in some prescribed manner. In general the process of requirements definition is followed by stages where the problem is analysed into a series of sub problems which in turn are further decomposed until the solutions are already at hand or are readily synthesised. The whole process is then reversed and the complete solution constructed by the amalgamation of the parts. This process has been remarkably successful in automating a very wide range of apparently complex problems ranging from the automation of manufacturing and service process to worldwide seat reservation systems
