Abstract :
Forthcoming public and private digital mobile radio systems (GSM, PCN, DECT, Digital Short Range Radio and Digital PMR) will all operate, with the possible exception of DPMR, in European bands at around 900 and 1800 MHz. Most research and operating experience has been orientated in recent years at frequencies up to 900 MHz for out-door vehicular users. Therefore there remains much work to be carried out, particularly at 1800 MHz, for propagation research and development for other path and pedestrian user environments, in order to model propagation and with the aid of modern geographical databases. Consequently, Philips RCS Radio Propagation Group has embarked on a programme of work in order to contribute to the NRPP and to carry out eventual system planning for users, particularly of DSRR and DPMR systems, with due regard to overall systems performance and spectrum efficiency
