Abstract :
The need for broadband Internet services requires the deployment of high-capacity access networks. In the next years, network operators will invest high amounts of money to deploy new fiber-based systems. In this paper we present a techno-economic calculation model and case-study results to compare three diverse access technologies: GPON, Active Optical Networking, and Point-to-Point optical networks.
