Abstract :
Today Breast cancer is the leading cause of death of women. Currently the effective method for early detection and screening of breast cancers is Ultrasonography. But the high rate of false positives in mammography causes a large number of unnecessary biopsies. Ultrasonography is an important adjunct to mammography in breast cancer detection. The accuracy rate of breast ultrasound can reach a high level in the diagnosis of simple benign cysts and reduce the number of false positives. This work helps to segment the breast tumors in ultrasound images. This will help in the computer-aided evaluation of the tumors and the distinction of benign and malignant nodules. The results extracted for the different features are coherent with the assessment of the specialists and represent a great help for the examination of the images and the decision making process. The purpose of this Paper is to segment a breast tumor from the surrounding tissue in an Ultrasound image. Once the tumor region and background region are defined, by using the shape analysis further diagnosis can be done.
