Abstract
Since the beginning in the early 1920s, radio broadcasting has contributed to the structural revolutions for foundation of a modern nation in Turkey. Apart from profound economic, political, social and cultural revolutionary reforms, one of the significant transformations was about timekeeping, and it was intended to synchronize the country with the rest of the world in formally adopting the use of mean solar time in every area of daily life. This paper summarizes the initiation of radio broadcasting and the transition of its administrative structure from the corporate wireless to the state radio together with its outcomes for the nationwide timekeeping.
