Abstract
There are several different types of triggered high pressure gas switches available for use in pulsed power systems. The most commonly used types include trigatrons, three electrode gaps, UV triggered and laser triggered gaps. Each switch has various operating advantages and disadvantages and its performance greatly depends upon the particular application. The authors present some results obtained from a research programme into the switching characteristics of pulsed charged triggered gas switches. This area of the research programme was concerned with determining: (a) the effect of trigatron configuration on the switching performance; and (b) the influence of the switching medium on switching performance
