  • Abstract
There is a changing emphasis within the broad field of new technology. Increasingly, innovations are to be found in the design and production of software as opposed to hardware. In tandem with the increased technological interest in software questions, there is also an increasing interest within the sociology of technology in the social dimensions of software design and production. Indeed, it is proposed that there is developing a social perspective on software. The authors discuss this concept and outline three system development environments which use this approach: design in an organisation, design in interaction and design in sequence
