Abstract
Two of the most dominant concerns in the power conversion industry today are active power factor correction and zero voltage switching. The authors highlight an experimental blend of the two whereby near unity power factor is achieved using a zero voltage switching technique. First, a derivation of the zero current switching technique is detailed, in addition to the control algorithm and required circuitry. This serves as a foundation, upon which the zero voltage switching derivative is introduced. Finally, experimental test results of both versions in a 175 Watt industrial lighting application are presented
