Abstract :
The Irish Electricity Supply Board´s operational experience with combined cycle power plants began early in 1979 at Marina, Cork. The plant comprises an 85 MW Frame 9001B gas turbine repowering a 1954 Siemens 30 MW steam turbine using a CMI unfired heat recovery boiler. Excellent performance of the Marina plant prompted the installation of a further plant at North Wall, Dublin in 1982. The North Wall plant consists of a 104 MW Frame 9001E gas turbine repowering three 16 MW BBC steam turbines (also of 1950s vintage), using a similar CMI boiler. The authors outline practical experience of the control and operation of these plants.<>
