Abstract
The third party assessment to BS5750 of the quality management systems within supplier organisations is a UK-wide activity covering thousands of companies. Until two years ago (1989), the IT companies amongst those thousands numbered a few dozen and included software producing companies which could be counted on the fingers of one hand. The author gives the reasons for this and explains why software certification and TickIT have gained popularity. The assessment of a company (SD-Scicon UK) who wished to acquire accreditation from the TickIT certification scheme and ISO 9001/BS5750 is described
