Two-dimensional arrays of InGaAs/InP MQW modulators and InGaAs photodiodes

Two-dimensional arrays of MQW modulators, operating in transmission in the 1.50 μm wavelength region, have been developed in both 4×4 and 8×8 formats with individual addressing of devices. These have been used in proof-of-principle demonstrations of 100 MBits 16-channel optical interconnect and 50 Mbit/s neural networks, with complementary arrays of detectors being required for the latter application.
