Abstract
Introduces the concept of `address-oriented software´, which is software that assigns particular meaning to the values of memory addresses. Such software is often not well supported by the services of the operating system in which it operates. The authors provide some examples of address-oriented algorithms, and propose a general model of the operations they use, called `address management´, which they intend to use as the basis of a new operating system. They derive a hardware model from their formal model, and suggest implementation techniques. A partial implementation of their hardware model is an integral part of the ARM 600 processor, currently in development
