Abstract
The authors report on a preliminary study of the influence of morphology on space charge accumulation in polymer insulators. To illustrate the space charge measurement principle, bulk charge and the associated electric stress distributions in a low density polyethylene sample after high electrical stressing are presented. Two samples of polypropylene film with different morphology have also been produced by appropriate thermal treatment. The morphologies of the two polypropylene samples were characterised using the permanganic etching technique. Transmission electron micrographs of the two samples are presented. Measurements of the bulk charge distribution and associated electric stress profiles for the two morphologies are also presented
