Abstract :
Recent research in radar detection theory has shown a clear progression from optimal detectors in Rayleigh clutter to those designed for long-tailed nonGaussian clutter types, such as the Weibull, Lognormal, and K. The authors first introduce the generalized gamma (GΓ) distribution as a clutter model which encompasses most of these known clutter types. Then after motivating the GΓ from a compound clutter viewpoint, they suggest an adaptive threshold detector structure which implements the joint maximum likelihood (ML) estimator of the GΓ parameters. Finally, they present small sample simulation results of the detection performance
