Abstract
The authors provide a basic outline of the interim metering scheme (IMS) introduced by Northern Ireland Electricity in 1992. The scheme provided for the installation of cubicles with main and check, class 0.5 solid-state, combined import/export, active and reactive meters for all generators and ancillary circuits with associated local data collectors. It includes fully automatic data collection equipment comprising a VAX based central station with facilities for collecting both 30 minute and 1 minute demand data. The ability to take account of transformer losses in establishing the net output to the grid is included and each of the four generators have simultaneous online access to the same metering data for their particular station
