Abstract :
In order to utilise semiconductor laser beams as carriers in inter-satellite communication links single spatial and temporal mode powers in excess of that available from a single laser would be desirable. A beamforming technique is described by which individual lasers (or a laser array) may be coherently combined using a binary phase diffraction grating
